Sliding or bifold doors: which suits your space?

Think about daily access, the view and where the open panels will go—not just the closed-door photograph.

Start with how you use the room

Picture an ordinary day, not only a sunny afternoon with every panel open. Will this be your usual route to the garden? Is there a dining table beside the opening? Do you mostly want an uninterrupted view, or a broad opening when the weather allows? Those answers are a useful starting point for Dolly.

Compare the movement

Sliding doors move along tracks, with the open panel sitting alongside another section. Bifold panels fold together into a stack. Neither description tells you the exact usable opening: that depends on the selected system, number of panels and arrangement.

A lift-and-slide product also has its own operating hardware. Do not assume every sliding handle or outside access arrangement is interchangeable.

Leave room for everyday access

Think about furniture, paths, steps and where folded panels would sit. A traffic-door request can make sense if you want everyday passage without opening the full bifold set, but it must work with the chosen panel configuration.

  • Sketch the opening and nearby obstacles.
  • Mark the side you would like the doors to stack towards.
  • Tell Dolly whether outside access and locking are important.

Compare checked quotes

Start with approximate overall dimensions and the product you prefer. Dolly will check the configuration, glazing, threshold and hardware before confirming a quotation. Your installer handles the survey and fitting. A picture is a useful conversation starter, not confirmation that every layout can be made.
