Flat rooflight or roof lantern: what is the difference?

A low-profile glazed opening or a raised feature? Here is a simple way to compare the two.

Look at the shape first

A flat rooflight has a low-profile glazed surface above its upstand. A roof lantern has a raised, angled form. Both introduce daylight from above, but they create different views from inside and a different appearance on the roof.

Think about the ceiling and the feeling you want in the room, as well as the exterior. A photograph cannot establish how much daylight your particular room will receive.

Match the product to the opening

Dolly’s range includes made-to-measure Korniche Flat Glass, standard-size Korniche FlatLite and Korniche aluminium roof lanterns. A listed FlatLite size is not automatically the right fit for an existing opening. Each product uses its own sizing and installation information.

Bring your installer into the choice

Your installer needs to confirm the opening, support, upstand and installation details. Dolly checks the roof product and requested glass specification. This is especially important before treating an approximate opening measurement as an order size.

  • Have a roof plan or opening sketch ready if available.
  • Explain whether the roof opening already exists.
  • Mention the room below and any privacy or solar-control questions.

Choose the details after the type

Colours, glazing preferences and available accessories differ across the three ranges. Use the correct product journey rather than transferring choices from a window or door. Dolly will confirm the complete specification and applicable warranty with your quote.
